Male’-(Scene-12- 17 April) - Parliament Speaker Ahmed Zahir refused to allow the case of Hussain Solah's probable murder case to be debated in the parliament this morning.MP Mohamed Aslam (Solah’s Constituency MP) requested the case to be debated in parliament as an emergency item but Zahir refused to have it on the agenda.Zahir told Aslam that he would give details of his decision in writing later to Aslam. However, Faafu atoll MP Ahmed Hamza and Laamu atoll MP "Rico" Moosa Maniku sided with Aslam and told Zahir that he had acted against parliament's procedures. The three MPs then walked out of the parliament in protest.Aslam cited many reasons for debating Solah's probable murder case as an emergency issue in parliament. The reasons cited were that Solah died while under police custody with grievous injuries; police behavior, action and communication with regard to the case were somewhat implicating them in the probe murder; loss of law and public order due to the tension created among the general public; police's inhumane treatment and arresting of some people who went to pay last respects to Solah; and the government's seeming obstruction of assigning an independent body to investigate the case.
