Government to carry out postmortem in a first in Solah's probable murder case:

Male’-(Scene-10- 17 April) - The government has decided to bring in foreign specialists to conduct a postmortem on Hussain Solah who was found adrift in the Male harbor on Sunday with grievous injuries. This is a first in the Maldives which currently do not have any laws or regulations regarding autopsies.A police statement said that the government decided on this move on the request of 27-year-old Solah's father, and due to a desire on the part of the government to find out the truth behind the possible murder of Solah. The government is to bring in official pathologists from neighboring Srilanka and do the autopsy on Solah in Maldives itself, police said. Family of the deceased is vigorously rejecting this offer by the authorities.Police said that according to doctors' opinions, Solah's probable time of death was early evening of Saturday. Police said that Solah, who was from Hithadhoo island in Maldives southernmost atoll Addu, was taken into custody on April 9 and released at 9:24pm on Friday after lack of evidence against him on a drugs offence charge. This statement by the police was challenged by the family lawyer Mr. Suood, saying that past police records would indicate that Solah is the first person released just after arrest and brought from far south in a dhoni to Male’ to be found that police lacks evidence.
Maldives Police have a record of detaining persons for lengthy periods of time even for pity questioning.
