Preliminary report on Solah’s autopsy can bring an end to “malicious speculation”: Shareef

Colombo - (Scene-24- 21 April) - Maldives Chief Government Spokesman Mohamed Hussain Shareef said that the preliminary report on the autopsy conducted on Hussain Solah’s body can bring an end to “malicious speculation” against the government of Maldives.“Whilst any loss of human life is deeply regrettable, we hope that Dr. del Alwis’ report helps to bring an end to some of the malicious speculation that has recently taken place with regard to the death of Solah,” Shareef was quoted as saying in a press statement by the Presidents’ Office issued late Saturday. Below are the main points identified in the preliminary report conducted by Dr. del Alwis, the Consultant Judicial Medial Officer in Colombo:- The body was in a highly decomposed state with blood stained putrefactive discharges coming from the nose and mouth- There were no major injuries to soft tissues. There were also no injuries to internal organs or bones. Therefore, death due to physical violence is excluded.- There were also no injuries due to burns.- There was no recent loss of teeth. There were 15 teeth in the upper jaw and 16 teeth in the lower jaw present.- There were a few minor injuries to the nose, face and left leg. These could have been sustained while in water.- Fine sand particles were present in the lower respiratory passages. Therefore, the death is due to drowning.- Samples were taken from the body for the detection of drugs/alcohol.- A detailed report including the possible time of death will follow after toxicology and histopathology.
